Qeshm’s Chahkooh Canyon
For most people traveling to Chahkooh Canyon is a surreal experience. Why?
Because they don’t expect to see a natural sight similar to Arizona deserts in
an island in the Middle-East! One of the pillars of Qeshm Island tourism
industry, the canyon is also popular among geologists and birdwatchers.
Qeshm’s Hara Forest
A dense forest floating on the waters of the Persian Gulf is another natural
wonder in Qeshm. This beautiful mangrove forest is an ideal place for boating.
As with Stars Valley tours, Qeshm
Hara Forest Tours
are again one-day packages starting from Qeshm. The
journey starts early in the morning and it ends on the afternoon of the same
day. Boating in Qeshm’s peaceful floating forest is a delightful experience. The
waters are replete with shrimps and migratory birds frequent the area each fall
and winter. That explains the popularity of the region with nature travel tours.
But not all spots on the itinerary of
attractions. In what comes below you will learn about a military fort, built
centuries ago on the golden coast of the Persian Gulf in Qeshm.
Qeshm’s Portuguese Castle
There was a time in history when leading actors in the political scene of the
world weren’t limited to one or two superpowers. At the height of imperialist
struggles during the 16th century, the Portuguese were one of the strongest of
colonial powers. They invaded many islands on the Persian Gulf including Qeshm
and Hormuz to have control over the lucrative trading path from India to the
West. To defend their newly-conquered territory against Iranians and their
international rivals, the Portuguese constructed many military forts. The most
famous of these strongholds lie in Hormuz Island (Fort of Our Lady of the
Conception). Another lesser-known fort was built in Qeshm known as the
Portuguese Castle. Dating back to five centuries ago, the fort renders a
breathtaking view of the Persian Gulf and is surrounded by date palms. The empty
holes that once held canons and many ruins in the structure of the fort are
reminders of the great wars of the old world. The great thing about visiting the
castle is that contrary to many of the attractions of Qeshm, it is less than 10
minutes’ drive from the city center.
In the light of the above, it is clear that there are loads of fun on Qeshm
tours and to savor all that glory you should stay a couple of days on the
island. For that, you will need accommodation and the good news is Qeshm
provides the visitors with a lot of exciting options.
